Will Jackson

Printed and framed by Will Jackson of Seattle as a gift to his Aunt June in Virginia.

“My mom always said ‘to have a friend, be one’- A few years ago, I took this picture that really shows their love for each other.”

“My mom always said ‘to have a friend, be one.’ She met June at a party in Richmond, Virginia in 1949—June was in tears with morning sickness and Mom, also pregnant, came to her aid—and they stayed best friends until Mom died a year and half ago. Although June soon moved to New Jersey, then Maryland and finally back to coastal Virginia, she and Mom visited often, vacationed together, and stayed close through thick and thin for 64 years.

They consoled each other during tough times, loved parties, (the wilder the better – at a mid-‘60s beach bash, they swapped dresses to confuse one of June’s beaus) and were ultimate shopping buddies. Most of all they made each other laugh.

A few years ago, I took this picture that really shows their love for each other.”Sending gifts

Halloween photos

It’s that time again: leaves are turning, nights are chilly, and pumpkins, spider webs, tombstones and ghosts are popping up all around the neighborhood.

For our family, the years of trick or treating and grade school Halloween carnivals are over. My girls are now in high school and college, and while they still love dressing up, the costumes now skew glamorous rather than spooky.sppoky Halloween photo

We were recently looking at old Halloween photos in albums from the early 2000s when we still routinely had prints made. I shot some of our favorites with my iPhone and decided to Sworl them up for a little Halloween display.

Here’s Julia as Pippi Longstocking, a witch and Snow White, and Laura as a devil and ghost, along with a strange candlestick my wife found at a yard sale, a big plastic spider we’ve had for decades, and a haunted house the kids painted at a party years ago. We chose 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 desk frames in Espresso and ankids Halloween photo 8 x 10 wall frame in Black.

These images bring back great memories for my family. And with Sworl, now they’re out of the albums and onto a table, ready to enjoy for many Halloweens to come.
