Printed and framed by Will Jackson of Seattle as a gift to his Aunt June in Virginia.

“My mom always said ‘to have a friend, be one’- A few years ago, I took this picture that really shows their love for each other.”

“My mom always said ‘to have a friend, be one.’ She met June at a party in Richmond, Virginia in 1949—June was in tears with morning sickness and Mom, also pregnant, came to her aid—and they stayed best friends until Mom died a year and half ago. Although June soon moved to New Jersey, then Maryland and finally back to coastal Virginia, she and Mom visited often, vacationed together, and stayed close through thick and thin for 64 years.

They consoled each other during tough times, loved parties, (the wilder the better – at a mid-‘60s beach bash, they swapped dresses to confuse one of June’s beaus) and were ultimate shopping buddies. Most of all they made each other laugh.

travel memories

“My family took a really fun trip to London in early September, which was when my mom took this picture.

“It was my sister’s first time in London, and this was actually taken on our first night there. We’d been to a football match earlier in the day and saw West Ham lose to Southampton. Our dad’s a huge fan of the English Premier League in general so we grew up watching all the games. Then we went to the South Bank for dinner at Wahaca, one of my favorites. I love the whole area because it’s full of character, lively and fun. The riverfront promenade, also called The Queen’s Walk, is lined with white lights. We ended up walking across the Westminster Bridge and back over to Parliament—a very full first day!

“The photo brings back memories of a really fun time. I framed two copies of the photo with Sworl, one for my apartment and one for my sister, who has hers in her house at college.”

Sisters

“This is a picture of my sister Cece and me during the Sasquatch music festival near George, Washington on the Columbia Gorge. I’m on the right. We camped with our friends for the entire Memorial Day weekend and saw a whole bunch of acts including Kid Cudi, Foster the People, and Cage the Elephant. I’m pretty sure this photo was taken by my friend Julia Kuhn during the set by The Naked and the Famous, an LA-based band originally from New Zealand.

“It was the first time at Sasquatch for both of us, and a great excuse to get together. I just graduated from the University of Washington and my sister—she’s two years younger—is at the University of Colorado in Boulder. We love to spend time together, alone or with our family, whenever possible.

Travel Photo

“Our guide took this picture of my girlfriend Cheri and me while we were on a private Segway tour on a hot summer Sunday in Rome.  We whizzed around to the less photographed side of the Colosseum and he took the shot in panorama mode on my iPhone.  It was a great day, the lighting was good, and this photo turned out to be one of my favorites from the trip. The tour company was Rex-Tours and I’d definitely recommend them.

“I found out about Sworl from a trade publication. It’s a cool app—the service was great and I was super-impressed with the packaging. I’ve used it several times now, including sending framed prints of another travel photo to some buddies after a Cape Cod dune tour.”

“I liked the colors and the message… Using Sworl was great—just a few swipes on my phone to get this beautifully framed photo.”

power of love

“I took this photo while visiting friends in New York this fall. Early one morning we were walking uptown to a TV show taping. First we saw Robert Indiana’s recently installed HOPE sculpture, a sibling of his LOVE that I’d seen in Philadelphia.

“Three blocks later, at Sixth Avenue and West 55th Street, there was New York’s own LOVE. I liked the colors and the message—a reminder of how I should treat others. There are now about 40 LOVE sculptures around the world, and the HOPE I saw is the first of several planned.

“I took the picture around 7 a.m., giving me the chance to get the shot without a lot of people in what is usually a very busy intersection. I like that it’s a reminder of how oddly peaceful New York can be at times.

Printed and framed by Joe Campos, Seattle, WA, for his sons Roman and Trason.

“Recently, Eagleclaw Football Academy entered a partnership with Sworl. Many of the photos Eagleclaw parents take of their kids during our training sessions and games are taken and stored on iPhones.  With Sworl, those captured moments can be easily framed and delivered—a perfect way to share memories with family and friends.

“From each sale made using a special promotional code, Eagleclaw families receive a 10% discount and Sworl contributes 10% of the purchase price to Eagleclaw’s RallyMe Scholarship Campaign for financially disadvantaged kids. Our goal is to raise enough scholarship funds to pay for 10 kids to train for a full year at Eagleclaw.

“It’s working really well for us, and I hope other groups will follow this win-win model.

soccer, sports, boys

“Here’s my son Roman with two former Eagleclaw Football Academy coaches who are professional soccer players—David Estrada of DC United and Andy Rose of the Seattle Sounders.

“I started training Roman and his younger brother Trason to be soccer players when they were first able to walk. I taught them to dribble,  keep the ball close, zig-zag with the ball and attack the goal. As they grew older, I continued to teach my boys more ball control skills and a love for the game. Soon, my sons’ friends were joining us for training and a team had formed. The kids called themselves Eagleclaw, and the name stuck. I really couldn’t properly train more than 14 players on my own, but kids continued to be drawn to the Eagleclaw philosophy of teaching young players technical skill.

“At the time, Seattle did not have a player-centered youth soccer school. There were many youth soccer clubs, but none put individual instruction ahead of developing teams. As interest continued to grow, I decided to expand Eagleclaw into a soccer school for boys and girls ages 5 to 15 offering comprehensive tactical and technical training.

“In fall and spring semesters, we use a Dutch-inspired curriculum based on the Ajax Academy training program and the Coerver Method of technical instruction. Most of our staff are current or former professional players. Our focus is building individual skills from a foundation of ball mastery. We have no tryouts or cuts and welcome all players, whether or not they belong to another youth soccer club. Our primary goal is to create a positive training environment where each player can develop technical and tactical skills to his or her best level.

“The second photo shows the Sea Eagles, an Eagleclaw Development team made up of 7-, 8- and 9-year-olds, including my son Trason, who’ve played together since last August.  This Fall, the Sea Eagles were Divisional Champions in the Under-9 division of the Puget Sound Premier League.  The photo was taken after their first victory of the season and perfectly captures the joy on their faces!”

“This is a picture of me with my Golden Doodle Josh.  He was nine but you’d have thought he was a puppy. I took this selfie during one of our daily routines. Every morning I’d sit on the steps to put on my shoes and he’d sit beside me with his bottom on the top step and his paws on the next.  He was definitely a poser! When I came upon Sworl’s website, I had three photos framed; one of Josh by the Christmas tree, one of him with my daughter for her room and this one for my bureau to remember all the happy times with my big white fluff-ball of love.”

brotherly love

“It was the first nice day after a long, long winter in Minnesota. I took my sons to the park to eat lunch. The boys were so excited to put on shorts and burn off six months of pent-up energy! It was maybe 65 degrees. I told Jack, 7, and Sam, 4, to run around and do whatever they wanted.

“These boys are best friends and worst enemies—they play and fight and argue and then they play and fight some more.

“The floating dock had been pulled out on the side of the lake. The boys ran out to the end and all of a sudden they were sitting still and, in a brief moment of reprieve, hugging it out. I was like, “Ooh, there’s a picture,” and I managed to snap it in time. A minute later, Jack pushed Samuel off the end of the dock—and they were at it again!

“I found the Sworl photo framing app in the iTunes app store. I like it because I don’t have a lot of spare time. I’ve had six or seven photos framed, changing up the sizes and frame colors so they look like a collection created over time.”

“Chase was born on February 10. This was the first time I was able to hold him. He had to be taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for emergency surgery right after he was born, and this was the next day. I was feeling a little nervous and anxious, but obviously very proud and happy to be a father. Holding Chase for the first time was one of the greatest single moments of my life.

“When Chase was 10 weeks old, we found out he had a series of rare congenital heart and pulmonary defects. Two weeks later he had surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and was hospitalized for about six weeks. Our experience at CHOP was excellent. We live about two hours away, but the pediatric surgeon Thomas Spray is considered one of the best in the world for this particular surgery. This photo of us playing was taken a couple of weeks after the surgery. Despite all he’s been through, Chase is one of the happiest kids I’ve ever seen, almost always smiling.

“The third picture was taken about a month ago. Chase is dressed up to watch a Penn State game with my wife and me. (We both went there and met at a tailgate after we graduated.) He definitely understands when football is on. He’s attentive and very alert and knows that we’re excited. Now the big debate is how soon I get to take him to his first game!
